Additive -101

Additive -101 is a Butyl Titanium Phosphate containing isopropanol and ethanol as solvents. It is a titanium complex for a low odor and low color adhesion promoters and contains no acetylacetone.

This product is more resistant to phenolic antioxidant than acetylacetonate and therefore less likely to produce yellow or red color in a system where phenolic antioxidants are present. Moreover ligand in this additive is more stable than other acetylacetonate based additives and thus at high temperatures it does not decompose give odor.

MECHANISM AND INK STABILITY :

In Titanium acetylacetonate and Additive -101, the residual o-propyl groups on the titanium centers are liable and titanates can therefore react with hydroxyl group on nitrocellulose resin.

In the first reaction which occurs to a small extent in the can, the titanate cross link the resin which increases the heat and water resistance.

The second reaction takes place during printing is the crosslinking of the resin to the substrate resulting in improved adhesion.

To avoid premature cross linking Titanium acetylacetonates and Additive -101 are stabilized in the ink prior to printing. Alcohol solvent in the ink stabilize the titanium isopropyl group until printing.
